There are two different ways to have a skateboard stance.

There are two different stances you can learn to skateboard in. One skateboard stance is called regular and the other is called goofy. I do not know why each way is called each name. They are really just two different ways to do the same thing. There is really nothing more "regular" in skateboarding about riding regular. Perhaps people who ride goofy are just a little more weird, haha.

Regular

The only difference between the two is which foot you put on the front of your board. It will lead to learning to skateboard in a completely different way however. I ride goofy and my best friend rides regular. It gets really frustrating sometimes when we can’t skate at the same spots, because of the approach or how a rail is set up.

You will end up using your right foot to do tricks if you learn goofy and your left foot if you ride regular. In the end you will be able to do a lot of tricks both ways. In the beginning, however, you should only learn to skate one way. It can end up taking you forever to learn to skate right if you try to learn both at once.

Goofy

No way is really better than the other. You can do all the same things either way. There are even contests between pro skateboarders to see which is better. It is all in good fun, but neither way will make you better. You can only get better with practice. So pick one and stick with it. You won’t need to know how to ride both ways until you can do some tricks. In the beginning just learn one way and have fun with it while getting good.
